Developed Free Film
by Luis on Mar.29, 2009, under Photography
So I’m extremely tired, but have been watching likes of Scrubs. I had an Aikido seminar today which a lot of fun, and I learned how to use a sword and bow staff.
But why I post things. so my last post, I talked about getting free film. Well I developed it and got it scanned in this Friday. Made me sohappy to scan the negatives in
.
This pictures is one that I’ve taken, it was definitely quite amusing. it was taken with Kodak Gold film, on a Nikon N65 with a 50mm f/1.4
Following thing. I took pictures of my friend Mandy in the studio when she visted me the other week. I took the time this past Wednesday to photoshop it a little bit. Mainly because my friend Sam were talking about different ways to enhance a photo. Mainly using different color overlays to try and give the picture more texture and depth. First I’m going to show you my layers palette from photoshop to give a better understanding of what I did.
The original image is:
As you can see I use non-destructive work flow.
-I first copied the layer
-Than use Channel Mixer to give me this really nice hue to it.
-I than took the original layer copied it again, and use the extract tool to cut it out.
-I switched the blending mode for the hued layer to soft light
-I then made the extracted layer a component of the hued layer by holding down alt and clicking inbetween those 2 layers.

And that’s what I did!
Free Film
by Luis on Mar.25, 2009, under Photography
So this is going to be an in between mainly because I feel like some things have happen in the past few days that is posting worthy.
First thing:
I got a bag FULL! (so like somewhere around like 40 rolls of film) of free film. My adviser at the paper had some film that he didn’t want anymore that has most likely expired. I have already shot 3 rolls so far. Hopefully going to develop them tomorrow, and will hoping have some interesting effect of them. Yay for free film.
2nd thing: Last weekend I was in Greensboro, NC for a orientation because this time next I should hopefully be in Japan. I got passed all but the last leg of the decision process. I’m really hoping they accept me. Things that will come with me going to Japan is an almost daily posting. I will have my digital cameras, film, and hopefully a film medium format camera with me. For anyone who is interested, I am going to Beppu, Oita, Japan. Oita is the prefecture that Beppu is in. I will be there from March until August studying web design.
3rd and most hilarious thing this week. Yesterday, Tuesday, March 24th, I went to the Courtyard Marriott to take pictures of the Playboy auditions. I met the playboy photographer, Kim Mizuno, who is actually a freelance photographer but does do a lot of work with Playboy. Talk to him while I was waiting for girls to come up. The reason why I was taken coverage for is because in the October issue, there will Girls of ACC and N.C. State was one of the places they were going to. Mizuno let me come in at the end to take some pictures of him taking pictures of this girl, he also let me try out his strobes, which were awesome.

Fun Time at Zoo
by Luis on Mar.23, 2009, under Photography
So not this most recent weekend but the weekend before that I went to the Asheboro Zoo for my friends birthday. She told us we had to go to the zoo, so sure enough we go. It was a lot of fun except for the fact that it was raining. I got over that part after awhile. But with what I have been doing, there is a gallery of the best pictures that week.
- The cutest little Artic fox
- Mr. Otter waving at us and just having a good time.
- Oh Owl, I wish you had more room
- It was hard shooting through this fence, but hello Bobcat
- Michele checking Susannah’s Camera
- Happy Birthday Susannah!
- mmm bison burger
- Ocelot, you were on a continous while loop, I wonder if there is a break in your line.
- Bats are so creepy, by the way
- Anchor Splash, the belly flop competition
What I was doing Last week
by Luis on Mar.18, 2009, under Photography
So nothing really big happened last week, so I’m just gonna post some stuff that I took pictures of that I enjoyed.
First things first!
Check out my friends Blog..right now, please! I’m jealous that he had this idea first.
http://photodeclamo.blogspot.com/
I’m also going to linking him regularly on my page.
Ok now onto random pictures I took last week.
1st- My friend Michele and I were taking a portrait of this guy out at the Bell tower. I was using my Light stand (with 42″ diffuser). When we got done I just started pictures of her (after the subject left of course). I like to look at this picture and compare the size of the lens to her head.

2nd- This past Friday was a gymnastic meet and of course our top girl, Taylor Seaman, was doing awesome. So now at the Technician, State’s student paper…where I work, we can’t print some of the photos I take, so the first one is 1 that did print, will the other is just a funny picture that I like.

So Wow, this simple project that I started working on a good 10 months ago that I was hoping to finish in 3 months has dragged out. What can I say, I’ve been busy. But tonight. I found time to work on it again. setting up times for more pictures and working on a photo.
THANK GOODNESS!
But so today I was working on “Greed”. I started a few weeks ago, but took a break and so here is what I have now.
Snow Day 2
by Luis on Mar.02, 2009, under Photography
So we had another Snow Day! This time though it was over Spring Break, yeah at State we have an extremely early spring break. It wasn’t as big as last time, we only got about 2.5″. So because it was spring break, I don’t have any snow boarding pictures this time, but I took have some pictures that I took around my house and in my back yard /neighbors. A little more scenic this time.
