New Picture and Thought
by Luis on Feb.24, 2009, under Photography
Alright so there this slight pauses inbetween posts are annoying me, I’m going to try to make these closer together (posts that is). I really want to make progress to this blog.
Anyways point is, I think I’m going to add Design to this blog. I am an Industrial Design student and I should include my designs in here as well as my photos. so some of the next few posts (after this one) is going to be some of my previous design projects. Then I’ll try to add a design post in there every once in awhile.
Without Further ado, Today’s picture is of my friend Christin who was Harley Quinn, from Batman. Then through a series of events she ends up in my studio and me taking pictures of her. Enjoy.
Hoops 4 Hope and Kay Yow
by Luis on Feb.17, 2009, under Photography
So if you are unaware, Kay Yow, head coach of the N.C. State Women’s basketball team, died earlier this year. (Please Click here to see a slideshow from the day she died.) She passed away due to a reoccurred case of breast cancer. One of her big fund raisers for breast cancer was Hoops 4 Hopes.
This was the 4th year for Hoops 4 Hope and it was held this past Sunday, Feb. 15. I did not take any pictures from this event but I worked completely on audio. So please go check out the audio slideshow, just click on the Picture. (The Kay Yow pink ribbon graphic, however was complied by me for the paper the day after she passed away).
Basketball against Wake Forest
by Luis on Feb.13, 2009, under Photography
So on Wednesday, Feb. 11th, was the N.C. State basketball game against Wake Forest. I just want to say that it was pretty much awesome. State did a good job at keeping their lead. Were some close calls, but I’m sure State needed this to help them beat UNC next week.
Just in case one doesn’t know that is Brandon Costner, a redshirt junior forward. He was leader in points during that game.
I just like this guys hat…I mean hey check out that craftmanship. He contributed his “beautiful hat” to his civil engineering knowledge.
Krispy Kreme Challenge 2009
by Luis on Feb.11, 2009, under Photography
For those who don’t know the Krispy Kreme Challenge (KKC for short) is where people race to Krispy Kreme (2 miles away) eat a dozen doughnuts and run the 2 miles back. The starting point is at the Belltower on Hillsborough St. on N.C. State’s campus. This was the 5th annual year of the challenge and had 5,000 people racing. This was quite a big jump from last year where there was around 1500. It was so big this year that it was covered by ESPN. As being a photographer for N.C. State’s paper, I covered the event from Krispy Kreme (while we have other various photographers at the starting point and in a rickshaw inbetween). Because not all of my pictures can be used and I still want to show them (that’s what happens when you have 10 photographers on an assignment).
But anyways please go view our offical coverage at Technicianonline.com
- Krispy Kreme before 8 am with the sun just starting to shine in.
- the doughnuts glisten as the sun shines on the glaze.
- Volunteers move boxes of doughnuts to stations so the runners can pick them up.
- Michele early in the morning, cold, hungry, and slightly content.
- The machine that kept track of all the runners and their times as they ran over them.
- Runners finishing up the first leg of the challenge, just before entering Krispy Kreme.
- A NCSU student stuffy doughnuts into his mouth while sporting ESPN 8 (“ocho”) as a pun from Dodgeball.
- An NCSU student sits down to rest while eating her 12 doughnuts before getting back on her free to run back the 2 miles.
- People dress up, including this UNC undergrad student dressed up as Waldo with is friends as he competes in the challenge.
- Runners are asked to throw away their empty boxes into a giant pile that stands next to the Krispy Kreme sign.
- Volunteers finish their job with cleaning up Krispy Kreme after the race. They had to pick up everything from boxes to throw up, left behind by competitors.
- The winner of the Krispy Kreme challenge standing infront of the Belltower with part of his prize. He was dethroned from his first place pedestal the following day after finding out there was some else who beat him.
