Archive for January, 2009

I just refound this blog and felt like posting in on here:

A great resource!

So, I’m posting mainly because I just found them.

Over the Summer I was a camp counsler for NCSU College of Design’s Design Camp. It was a lot of fun and on the last day I helped my group of kids each make a stop-motion short. After all was done I then decided to make one for myself as well.luis_awesome

Then I also made another one in December with some of my friends which you can view below:

Gold Fight

(that last one is quite big, sorry)

Well enjoy!

So on Jan. 20th (day of President Obama’s inauguration) in the central to east North Carolina we had ranging from 3-7 inches of snow. In the north, like New York, they probably were laughing at the fact that we got out of school. Not really the point but it was enjoyable and that’s why I tend to the love the snow. Heck our newly elected governor, Gov. Bev Purdue, even called a “State of Emergency” wow what people will when they screwed up some 4 years ago.
Just so there isn’t any confusion January of 2005 Raleigh got about 2 inches of snow and then about an inch of ice. Wake County as a whole didn’t want to close school or anything and was hesitate about getting the salt trucks out to protect the road, mainly because they didn’t think it would amount to anything. So to make this any shorter, people were driving on thick layers of ice that had no salt because now trucks couldn’t get out and it took me 12 hours to get home that day when usually it would taken be about an hour. Most people had to abandon their cars on the side of roads, churches opened up as shelters as well as schools. It was a terrible experience, I remember sitting on the bus and feeling it shift on the ice.
So anyways the point of this blog is because I work for my universities newspaper I woke up at 9:30 and was out shooting by 10:00. and as soon as I got out there I found a bunch of guys who made a ramp out of snow and jumping over this brick wall with snow boards, producing this image.

Joseph Rumsey, junior in pyschology, jumps over a snow ramp with his snowboard in the Court of Carolina on Tuesday morning. He said he decided to go out there because he knew about the big hill. "My girlfriend was suppose to come with but she bailed, so I had my friend drop me off," Rumsey said. Photo by: Luis Zapata Copyright Technican 2009

So that being said, I would also like to say that I put together a slideshow of mine and other photographers work for the paper. That can be found at this link

I guess I can’t really call this a current project, but it’s a project that I’ve been working on for some time now, it’s a common theme of:
The Seven Deadly Sins.
What I’ve been doing is getting my friends to portray each of the 7 deadly sins. I have taken 3 of the 7. And has almost finished 1. That one is Wrath. I’m about half way done with Greed and Envy as well. I took Sloth but I didn’t like it so I’m planning on taking it again. However here is what I have Wrath, I’ll post Greed and Envy once I have a little bit more done with those.

So this is my first post, and just a few things I want to say. My main goal for this blog is to post pictures I’m working on, rants about photography/photo-gear, cool information/blogs that I find about both of those things, and maybe they occasional Adobe Photoshop tutorial if I deem necessary as I do get upset with most Photoshop tutorials, especially published books.

Secondly I’m going to post my gear simply because I know that it makes it seem like people can see where I’m coming from in my photography and gear post.
I use a:
D300 (newly bought)
D50 (had since Feb. 2007)
18-55mm (f/3.5-5.6)
28 mm (f/2.8)
50 mm (f/1.8)
85 mm (f/1.8)
SB800 Flash

Also I use a N65 film camera, and I roll and develop my own film.

I’m hoping to post some sort of photo I took that I thought was cool, or one that I’m in the process of editing almost every other day or so. As I am studying Industrial Design and work as a photographer for a paper that might not always be possible but enjoy!
