This week’s theme is Proverb Illustration. Thought it could be something fun, something interesting, and something to get our minds thinking a little bit more. More importantly to really make an effort on conveying a photo with a very clear message. Now that message isn’t our own, but still aiming for a message that can be received by everyone. For this reason I chose proverbs, a phrase that also doesn’t say exactly what it means.
This week’s photos were judged by Matt Stamey, a Gainesville Sun photographer in Florida. You can visit him on Google+ .
Can you guess what the proverb is? leave a comment with your guess!

Fun idea. Great way to keep the mind working to make photos.
I feel like it should be easier for me to come up with the proverb but I had trouble with two of them.
I got the Bird in the hand with is worth two in the bush. As for the photo, it’s pretty straight forward. (as long as you know what birdies are.. played plenty of that in grade school gym class) I like the depth of field and the position of the birdies. Simple and fun that you didn’t use a toy bird or something like that. Little outside the box.
I thought a lot about what photo 2 could be… melting, crowns, colors… I’m probably thinking too hard about it but, oh well. I like the photo though. Like the bright colors and how they melt onto the paper. Fun.
Photo 3… I’m sure once I hear the proverb I’ll slap my head. Looks like some fun photoshop work going on. But I just can’t figure it out. The photo itself is kind of boring to me. I might like it more if I could figure out the proverb and see how it relates to the photo.
So if I had to rank them as photos… I’d put the melting colors as #1. The birds in the bush as #2 and the piano as #3.
But, just want to say that I love this idea for a photo project. Such a great exercise for the creative mind. Keep them coming and if you ever want to include another photog… don’t forget about me
Well.. now that I know the proverbs. Great stuff! And I’m kicking myself for not getting the Color Outside the Lines. That’s my favorite now. I think the reason I didn’t get that was I didn’t see/take notice of the line. I was focused on the actual colors (I googled “Proverbs with the word yellow”) So I think had I seen more of the page from the coloring book, I would have gotten it. But like how it’s subtle so I don’t know. The melting also threw me off a little. I like how it looks though. Maybe if there ere some scribbles on the page or something.
Photo 3 is a good idea, but it’s tough to see how it fits with the proverb. I think of tools when I hear “fix” so the buttons kind of threw me off. I think I’m getting it… adding extra buttons and doodads to a piano doesn’t make it better. It’s not broken the way it is, don’t try to make it better by adding stuff. But at first glance, I see a remote control on the side of a piano. But this is a tough one to illustrate because you could shoot anything really. That’s why tools popped into my mind. Tough one. But after hearing the proverb, it makes sense.
Not sure how I would shoot Bird in the Hand… Like I said before, I’m glad you used Birdies from the game and not a bird toy or something. (Well, maybe some Angry Birds would have been funny though) Not much to change really. Maybe seeing the hand in more focus would help. But I was able to figure it out.
